While the urban villages that make up the North Phoenix region may reside in the desert; they’re far from being deserted. North Phoenix is celebrated for its diverse architecture (not just the typical “McStucco buildings”), trendy restaurants, and easy access to hiking at the North Phoenix Mountain Preserve. This popular region is conveniently located for commuting to both downtown activities and the lively entertainment in Scottsdale. From the laid-back atmosphere to the 330+ days of sun; people who live in North Phoenix enjoy a relaxed, outdoorsy lifestyle.
North Phoenix is comprised of the urban villages of Paradise Valley: North Mountain, Deer Valley, Desert View, and Happy Valley. Most of our North Phoenix apartments are in the North Mountain and Deer Valley areas; both of which are considered to be busier and are more centrally located that other North Phoenix villages. As a whole, the city of Phoenix is known for its affordability, and these neighborhoods are no different. Typical one-bedroom apartments in North Phoenix range anywhere from $400-$700, while 3-bedroom units average around $1100. Most apartment complexes also come with deluxe amenities like outdoor pools and fitness centers.
When searching for a North Phoenix apartment, most Phoenicians would advise to avoid “The Square.” This area is known for having a high crime rate and runs between Greenway to Bell and Cave Creek to 32nd Street. We would like to note that most of our apartments are centered around highway 17 rather than 51 where The Square is. In your search, you shouldn’t run into any trouble avoiding this spot of bother. As always, we recommend the “try before you buy” method of renting, but if you’re just moving to Phoenix and have no way to check out the neighborhood we highly recommend avoiding this area.
For many who’ve never been to Phoenix, the most popular activities that come to mind are Spring Training and golf. And sure, Phoenix is home to some awesome baseball stadiums and pristine golf courses, but when you live here it’s not like that’s all you’re going to be doing. While baseball games are always fun, there are also several options for dining and entertainment that are spackled throughout the community. Many people choose to escape the heat within one of the many shopping malls throughout Phoenix, including the nearby Paradise Valley Mall and the Outlets at Anthem. These areas also offer fantastic options for dining and entertainment.
Phoenicians love their cars, and with the lack of public transit mixed with the urban sprawl, they definitely spend a lot of time in them. Sure there are highways that are still being built and still seemingly lead to nowhere, but from North Phoenix you will most likely have a quick and easy commute to most areas of the city. This region contains many of the well-established freeways, including I-17, SR51, or Loop 101 which leads to downtown, Tempe, or the West Valley. If you fly often, North Phoenix is usually within 30 minutes of the Sky Harbor depending on traffic.
North Phoenix covers an enormous amount of ground, which means that there are several different school districts you’ll encounter when choosing a place to live. The Paradise Valley Unified School District is the zone which most residents in North Phoenix fall under. This incorporates elementary, middle, and high schools, and is one of the largest school districts in the state. Some of the southern parts of North Phoenix fall into other independent school districts that were in existence before their territories were added to the city. Because of this, most areas of Phoenix fall into independent elementary and high school districts. There are also myriad options for private schools in Phoenix. Depending on your child’s age and talents you’ll want to do some research and find the best fit for them!
