When considering entertainment, culture and attractions, it just doesn’t get much better than renting in London, England! If you’re looking for a place to live that offers you a little bit of everything, London might just be the right place for you.

As one of the world’s largest financial centers, people of all types are attracted to this booming, vibrant metropolis. The result is a large rental market with a very low vacancy rate. Since London offers renters a plethora of both neighborhoods and types of apartments and homes to rent, it’s important to prioritize in advance exactly what you’re looking for and how much you’re willing to spend.

London is divided into 33 boroughs, all varying in characteristics and offerings. The borough known as the City of London is the main financial district and hosts many of London’s most historic buildings. The West End is largely regarded as London’s entertainment and tourist hub packed with restaurants, nightclubs and theaters. In the West End, will typically find some of the most expensive rental properties ranging from £700 – £800 a month for a single bedroom apartment. The East End of London has seen an increase in renters as it is the future site of the Olympic Park for the 2012 Olympics. Rent rates in the East End can range from £650 – £750 a month for a single bedroom apartment.

Since the cost of living is typically higher in a city like London, it’s important to understand what exactly you’re paying for – especially since London has many different types of rental properties available. Flats are generally one to three bedroom apartments that are convenient for sharing with friends or roommates. Studios are self-contained flats that have the entire apartment, including the kitchen and bathroom, located within one giant, open room. Bedsits are older multi-level houses that are split up into mini-apartments. All of these options range in cost and availability depending on what area of London you are looking into, but it’s important to know that you do have options!

For those who are seeking a short-term rental, London has many different residences for you to explore. Hostels are an affordable way to stay in the city, and if you plan to stay for more than a few days, some offer month-long packages that will remain within your budget. If you prefer a more traditional apartment, there are many available that come fully-furnished and even include utilities.

Whether you plan on stopping by for a quick visit, or making the move more permanent, London has a variety of rental options available. The key to this busy city is educating yourself on what’s out there, and knowing what you are looking for. This way, you’ll remain on budget and might even be able to splurge on seeing all the sites that this exciting city has to offer! Would you ever consider moving to London?
