Who doesn’t love a good celebrity sighting? The magazines may say that stars are just like us, but it’s hard to believe unless you see them in person. While you may not necessarily be able to afford to rent an apartment in a neighborhood where there are regular celebrity sightings, there’s no rule that says you can’t frequent their local haunts in hopes of catching a glimpse of your favorite starlet, leading man, musician or reality TV star.
As the Live Music Capital of the World, Austin is a favorite destination of musicians and celebrities who simply appreciate a fantastic live show. Rumor has it that Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, actor Matthew McConaughey and the iconic Willie Nelson are a few of the many celebs who call Austin home. For celebrity sightings, you’ll want to head downtown. Actor Ryan Gosling and former President Bill Clinton have both been spotted at Guero’s Taco Bar on South Congress (not together, presumably,) and the annual SXSW festival draws celebrities from around the country.
New York City
The Big Apple is a hotbed of celebrity culture–between Broadway stars and actors in town filming their latest blockbuster hits, chances are you’ll have a celebrity sighting if you know where to look. As one of the city’s most expensive zip codes (and the chosen neighborhood of many celebs, including Mr. Robert De Niro), Tribeca is a great place to spot your favorite actors. If you’re looking to dine with the stars, head to the Spice Market in the Meatpacking District or The Spotted Pig in the West Village (Jay-Z is an investor).
As the epicenter of all things Hollywood, what better place is there for celebrity sightings than Los Angeles? You can begin your search as you alight at the arrivals terminal at LAX–there are always stars coming and going. And while you may luck out and spot your favorite celeb in Beverly Hills, you’re better off trying something a little more off the beaten path. The Brentwood Country Mart in the suburb of the same name just outside LA is a favorite hangout of celebrities like Jennifer Garner, Reese Witherspoon and their children. The Sunset Strip and its famous hotels, such as the Chateau Marmont, have also been known to attract a celebrity or two (or 50).
