Best Dog Parks in Los Angeles

May 1, 2014 | Best Cities, Best Cities and Neighborhoods

LA is already known as the city of stars (if you want to spot some celebs, be sure to hit up these hangouts), but what you may not know is that it’s also a great place to have a dog! In fact, there are many Los Angeles neighborhoods that are surprisingly dog-friendly, which may be why so many residents have furry friends.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and are looking for a place for Fido to roam free, be sure to check out some of the best dog parks in LA:

Alice Frost Kennedy Dog Park

Located inside of Vina Vieja Park, Alice Frost Kennedy Dog Park is a favorite gathering place of dog lovers thanks to its large off-leash space. Known by the locals as Alice’s Dog Park, this space has separate areas for large dogs, small dogs and dogs with special needs.

The park is pretty hilly, but if your furry friend gets tired and thirsty while navigating the challenging terrain, there is water available for him to drink. And don’t panic if you forgot Fido’s favorite toys at home—there are plenty of communal ones lying around the park!

Silverlake Dog Park

This off-leash dog park spans 1.25 acres and is open every day of the week. Like Alice’s Dog Park, Silverlake Dog Park has separate areas for large and small dogs. However, what makes this park special is that it has gorgeous views of the Silver Lake Reservoir, making it a picturesque place to take Fido to stretch his legs. If your busy schedule makes it difficult to head to the dog park during the day, don’t worry! Silverlake is well lit at night.

Runyon Canyon Dog Park

If what you look for in a dog park is mainly its size, then Runyon Canyon Dog Park is for you: It spans a whopping 160 acres! Your pup can trot alongside you as you go for a hike, or explore the 90 acres of off-leash space.

The park is open from dawn until dusk Monday through Friday, and offers breathtaking views of the Los Angeles skyline. Even celebrities love to bring their pooches here!

Airport Dog Park

Airport Dog Park gets stunning reviews from all who have taken their precious pups there, and it’s no wonder why. Not only does it have free parking, this dog park also boasts plenty of bench seating, picturesque water fountains and tri-level terrain. There are separate areas for both small and large dogs, and the park is kept extremely clean. Just make sure your dog has Santa Monica tags before you go!

Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park

This off-leash park spans 5 acres and offers three separate areas for dogs to play in. If your pup has tired you out from playing fetch in the grassy area, take a breather at one of the many picnic tables dotting the park. No need to bring your own water for Fido either, as there are plenty of water spigots and bowls that you can use.
