University City

Finding a Philadelphia apartment in University City will put you near two of the largest and most influential colleges in Philadelphia: the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. Located in the heart of West Philadelphia (yes, the home of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), this neighborhood is the academic epicenter of the entire region. It’s fueled by youthful innovation and an unshakeable commitment to artistic and cultural exploration.

It’s easy to get around in University City, as it’s a very pedestrian-friendly area. If you have a car at school, you can opt for plenty of metered street parking or paid garage spots. The SEPTA’s Market-Frankford Line also runs riders east and west along Market Street, one of U-City’s densest corridors.

In this neighborhood, you’ll find a vibrant street food scene and Iron Chef-run establishments, as well as high-end art galleries and intimate venues perfect for an area to hang with the diverse student population. Head to The Porch at 30th Street Station, where you can enjoy local food trucks, fresh farmers markets and live entertainment with some friends. If you’re looking for something to do during the afternoon, Franklin Field, home of Penn football, is right in town.

Lucky for students, it takes no time at all to walk from Callowhill straight into Center City. Callowhill is coveted by young members of the creative class thanks to its extreme walkability. This Philadelphia neighborhood is located just north of Chinatown and is also known as “The Loft District” due to its stylish modern high-rises and factory residences. For students interested in Philadelphia’s art scene, Vox Populi is a must-visit. Founded in 1988, Vox Populi is filled with artists of multiple genres, representing the challenging and experimental edge of contemporary art. It hosts monthly events like gallery talks, performances, lectures and exhibitions, for students.
