Not surprisingly, when you ask men and women what their dating dealbreakers are, the answer usually changes depending on gender. If you’re new to the dating game, or even if you are a seasoned pro, you may want to know what some turn-ons and turn-offs of a potential romantic partner might be. Here are some of the most common dating dealbreakers:
In a recent Rent.com survey, 82 percent of respondents said they pay attention to how clean their date’s apartment is when seeing it for the first time. In fact, when you ask renters how much of a turn off a dirty apartment is, 78 percent said it was their biggest one!
Additionally, 45 percent of renters got specific and said a romantic partner with a dirty bathroom was a big downside. Does this sound like you? If it seems like you are hitting it off, but your date doesn’t call again after seeing your apartment, you may want to tidy up a bit.
Overall, 67 percent of renters responded that a nice apartment would make them more interested in a potential partner. However, this becomes less important with age, as 79 percent of respondents ages 18-24 admitted a nice pad increases their interest in a partner and only 54 percent of participants ages 48-67 said the same thing.
Dating Dealbreakers for Men
Back Up: Some men feel that it’s a deal breaker when their partner doesn’t back them up. Whether it involves a dispute with friends or family, the guy wants you to be on his side.
Flirting: This may seem obvious, but apparently some people have a problem with their partner being too friendly. So don’t flirt around your fella, or even behind his back.
Being Ignored: Guys–just like ladies–want attention, which is why some say being neglected in social situations is a dealbreaker. Remember when you are hosting a dinner party at your apartment to put in some face time with your significant other as well as your guests.
Cheating: Of course, this is an obvious dealbreaker for most men, so don’t do it.
Dating Dealbreakers for Women
More Time Spent Gaming: Lots of guys love playing online or video games, however, when more time is spent holding a controller than snuggling with a significant other, it can affect the relationship. So scale back the time playing video games and your partner will appreciate it.
Wandering Eye: Some people live by the motto “You can look, but don’t touch.” But some ladies don’t even like a wandering eye in their mate. Fellas, your attention should be spent gazing at your partner.
Infidelity: Yes, women care if men cheat, too. Even if you have been faithful to your current partner, a speckled past may cause your current mate to wonder if you have truly given up your old ways.
