Decorating with Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year

January 6, 2014 | Apartment Décor, DIY Home Improvement

Looking for a new way to spruce up your apartment decor? Turn to Pantone’s 2014 color of the year: Radiant Orchid. This trendy hue is a mix of pink and purple that will give any room in your apartment the perfect splash of bright color. There are so many ways to utilize this hue throughout your interior design, but we’ve got a few ideas for inspiration:

Throw Pillows and BlanketsPantone's 2014 Color of the Year - Throw Pillows

The best thing about pillows and blankets is that you can swap them out whenever you want to completely change the look of a room. Look for solid-colored pillows or blankets in an orchid hue or search for pillows with a purple pattern on it, like chevron, stripes or dots, to bring some life to your living room or bedroom.

Freshen up your apartment by arranging a bouquet of purple orchids. Place it in your kitchen for a table centerpiece, or put it on the windowsill in the bathroom for an accent of color.

Tea Kettle

Draw some attention to the stove in your kitchen with a bright purple tea kettle. This serves two purposes: It brightens up a drab kitchen and allows you to make a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate to warm up during winter.

A Lamp

Search for table lamps in the radiant orchid hue and display them in your living room, on your bedside table or in a reading nook for a cozy and colorful space.

A Rug

Place a rug in your living room for a stark contrast against neutral accessories. You could also go smaller with a tiny mat for your bathroom.

A Couch or ChairPantone's 2014 Color of the Year - Couch

If you really aren’t afraid to go bold with your apartment decor, search for a couch or a chair in Pantone’s color of the year. It will certainly be a glamorous focal point for your living room or bedroom. If you’re not sure if you’ll like the shade when coordinated with the rest of your interior design, look for a slipcover in the same hue that you can remove at a later time if you decide to go in a different direction with your style.

Curtains

Don’t leave your windows bare–attach radiant orchid-colored curtains. Look for a semi-transparent fabric so that natural light can still shine through the curtains and offer warmth and brightness throughout your apartment.

Books

Head to the thrift store to see if you can find any antique books available in shades of purple. Stack them up for a quick table centerpiece or display them on open shelving. Here are some more ways to decorate with books.
