August 20, 2014 | Best Cities, Best Cities and Neighborhoods

So now that you have found your dog-friendly apartment in Indianapolis, it’s time the two of you took on the town. One of the best ways to make new friends (who share your love of animals) is through dog-related activities. Here are a few of Rent.com’s favorites:

Humane Society of Indianapolis Dog Park

Despite the stiff $65 annual membership, the Humane Society of Indianapolis Dog Park has a nice acre to for exercise and sniffing the joint up. There is an application process prior to showing up on your first day. Don’t let the fee scare you off: Not only are you helping out a great non-profit, but you are paying for a well-manicured park and a group of responsible owners.

With the dog adoption right next door, you may even come home with a new pal.

Good Dog Hotel & Spa

Once you are in the lobby of Good Dog Hotel & Spa, your pet will feel like they are in 4-star hotel. This 10,000 square-foot spa for schnauzers offers boarding, day care, professional grooming and self-serve, and puppy training.

While rejuvenating, the pups enjoy private suites, four daily walks, and 2 meals a day. The private suites have tall walls and glass doors, so they are pretty quiet. The only minus is that is doesn’t have raised beds.

Three Dog Bakery

Your pup has been pretty good throughout your move. Let’s get into some delicious rewards. The Three Dog Bakery feeds your pet like a family member. Pretty much everything is baked in-house with no filler ingredients and fresh produce like blueberries, spinach and carrots.

For special diets, they also have low-fat and wheat-free options. There are two locations in Indy and one more in nearby Noblesville, but you can also order through their online store. They also make drool-icious to order items like birthday cakes.

Chateau Thomas Winery

Wait! What about a treat for you? Pups are allowed, on-leash, on the grounds of  the Chateau Thomas Winery, located in a scenic area by the airport. For over 25 years, Dr. Charles and Jill Thomas have been churning out world class wines that have gained national notoriety.

There is also occasional food tasting, so keep an out for that. Remember to make sure the car is comfy while you are selecting varietals;  the tasting rooms is off-bounds
