Eco-Friendly Travel Tips
Believe it or not, you can be eco-friendly even when you’re on the road. Whether you’re heading on vacation or traveling for business, consider these easy and sustainable travel tips:
Bring Your Own Water Bottle
Instead of relying on purchasing various plastic bottles of water everywhere you go, plan on bringing a reusable water bottle that you can fill up when you need to. This will mean there are going to be fewer plastic bottles ending up in landfills.
Leave the Sand
It may be fun to scoop up a bottle of the sand from the beach you just visited and take it home with you, but it’s better for the environment if the sand is left in its natural habitat. It may not seem like a big deal at first, but if everyone takes a jar full of sand every time they head to the beach, that could end up having a very negative effect on the world’s ecosystems and wildlife.
Use Biodegradable Sunscreen
When you’re preparing for your trip, be sure to pick up some sunscreen to protect your skin from the harsh UV rays. Just make sure you’re getting biodegradable sunscreen. The traditional kind actually contains some chemicals and detergents that leak into the water when you go swimming in oceans, lakes, ponds, etc. This has a negative effect on the underwater life and can actually cause damage to coral reefs.
Turn Off The Lights
Something as simple as flipping a switch can have a positive effect on the environment. Wherever you’re staying when you travel, make sure to turn off the lights when you leave the room, just like you would in your apartment. This will prevent you from wasting energy and burning unnecessary fossil fuels.
