How to Make Homemade Beauty Products
Ladies, we know you spend boatloads of money to look as good as you do. Makeup, face cleanser, lotions, scrubs, lip balm, hair treatments and whatever else makes you look and feel like a million bucks can really take a toll on your wallet. Have you ever thought about creating your own homemade beauty products?
It may sound daunting, but DIY beauty is super simple and requires things that you likely already have in your apartment. Skincare and hair products can be crafted in the comfort of your own home, so pour a glass of wine and invite your best gal pals over to make your own beauty products.
DIY Body Scrub
Store bought body scrubs can get really pricey, and you don’t even get a lot of the product. Gather 1/2 cup white sugar, 2 cups raw brown sugar, 1 tablespoon honey, 1/2 cup olive oil and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and you can make your own! If you prefer a smell other than vanilla, feel free to add whatever essential oil suits your fancy. For a more gentle scrub, add regular brown sugar instead of the raw kind. When you’re using this in the shower, just be careful of the olive oil on the tub surface–you don’t want to slip!
DIY Face Mask
Depending on your skin type, you can make a face mask with oats, honey, cinnamon, olive oil, bananas or avocados. The simplest concoction is to use one avocado, 1/2 cup oats and 1/3 cup of raw honey. The natural antioxidants of the avocado, soothing properties of oats and antibacterial properties of honey combine to leave you with soft, supple and nourished skin. If you often have blemishes, add a sprinkle of cinnamon to the mask.
DIY Cool Toner
While toner is best for hot summer days, it is a great staple to have in your beauty regimen year-round. Try a cool cucumber toner made of half of a cucumber with the peel (chopped), 3 tablespoons of witch hazel and 2 tablespoons of distilled water. Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender until it’s smooth. Then, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any particles of cucumber, and then add the toner to a tightly sealed container. Store it in the refrigerator and use with a cotton ball.
DIY Body Butter
Homemade beauty products like body butter are not only easy to make, but they don’t contain any additives that could actually irritate your skin. This body butter is simply made of 1/2 cup shea butter, 1/2 cup coconut oil and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Add all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until it is light and whipped. Take the body butter out and store it in a tight container in your bathroom.
