Miami Neighborhoods with Beach Proximity

September 20, 2013 | Best Cities and Neighborhoods, Best Neighborhoods

If you’re planning on moving to Miami, chances are you were lured by one of three things: sun, surf and sand. OK, and maybe a great job. One of the best things about living in this metropolis by the sea is that no matter where you live, you aren’t too far from the ocean. Still, if beach proximity is your number one priority, it’s undeniable that certain Miami neighborhoods are better located than others. As you search for a Miami apartment and contemplate where you want to live, be sure to check out these areas–they’re right along the beach:

South Beach

Also known as SoBe, South Beach is the epicenter of Miami nightlife. Located just 10 miles from the beach, South Beach draws a fascinating crew of characters, from college students to artistic locals to those who identify as LGBT. Aside from its colorful community, South Beach is also known for its quintessentially Miami Art Deco architecture. This neighborhood is also the site of the famous Art Basel Miami Beach, an annual contemporary art fair.

North Shore

If you’re looking to live around a little less chaos, North Shore may be a great fit. This neighborhood has a very residential feel–its main fixture is the North Shore Open Space Park. There’s a clean beachfront and plenty of green space, and the neighborhood is conveniently sandwiched between Surfside and Sunny Isles Beach, both of which are in the midst of a revitalization. North Shore is definitely more family-friendly, so if you’re not into partying it’s a great place to rent a Miami apartment.

Surfside

This oceanfront community is another tranquil Miami neighborhood, with a quaint shopping district and small bistros. Along Collins Avenue, you will find luxury condos and swanky hotels, but Harding Avenue retains the small-town feel that gives Surfside its charm. There are also plenty of public beaches and parks. Surfside is a great place to live if you want access to the vibrant nightlife that South Beach and downtown Miami have to offer, but prefer to live in a more residential setting.

Sunny Isles Beach

If you love living among high rises, Sunny Isle Beach is the place to be. Sandwiched between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, this Miami neighborhood is booming with new developments. With 2.5 miles of shoreline, plenty of restaurants and attractions like the Ancient Spanish Monastery, Sunny Isles Beach is a unique mix of old and new.

Bal Harbour

For those that can afford to spend a little bit more on rent, there’s no place more glamorous to live than Bal Harbour. This ritzy and exclusive neighborhood is home to the “Rodeo Drive of Miami,” which features designer retailers like Cartier, Gucci, Prada and Chanel. While many of the homes in this neighborhood are in gated communities, there are high-rise condominiums and apartments available for rent near the beach.
