Small Closet Ideas to Make the Most of Your Space
It would be nice to have a celebrity closet the size of a bedroom, filled with fancy clothes and Jimmy Choos as far as the eye can see. But if a small apartment is what your budget can afford, you’ll have to make do with a tinier space. However, a small closet doesn’t have to be a bad thing. There are plenty of ways to maximize space. Here are a few small closet ideas for your apartment:
Move Excess Hangers
It’s likely you have more hangers in your closet than actual clothing. If this is the case, make room by putting the hangers into storage. Place them in their very own hamper, and when you need them to hang something up, they’ll be right in your closet for easy access.
Put Shoes in Their Place
If you’re putting all of your shoes on the floor of your closet, there is going to be very little space for anything else. One easy fix is to use closet organizers like a hanging storage unit or cubbies to store each pair of shoes. This gets them off the floor and groups them neatly. Hanging organizers can easily be placed in the back of the closet and can hold other items like gloves, scarves, sunglasses or jewelry.
Take Advantage of Vertical Space
Vertical space, both above and below your closet rod, offers a place to store your fashion essentials. Shelves and hanging rods can make it easy to find a home for items you may not use every single day. Hooks on the wall can create extra storage space when you hang them inside the closet.
Look Under the Bed
If it’s summer, you’re not going to need your winter clothes, and vice versa. Store seasonal clothes you don’t need at the moment under the bed. This allows for plenty more room in your small closet to display all of your seasonal staples.
Shelves are great for storing sweatshirts, bath towels and more. However, it can be easy for all of your clothing to blend together over time. Use wire shelf dividers so you can tell the difference between your sweaters and your jeans.
Organize by Color
Sorting your clothing by color may not physically offer your closet more space, but it does give off the feeling of a bigger closet because it will appear more streamlined. It also makes it a lot easier to find the shirt you’re looking for when you’re on-the-go.
