Best Dallas Neighborhoods for Fashionistas
Dallas, Texas, may have a reputation for big skyscrapers and even bigger hair, but it also has an exciting shopping scene just waiting to be descended upon by scores of fashionistas as they exit their Dallas apartments. Whether you prefer to scour thrift store racks, browse local boutiques or be immersed in the luxury of Neiman Marcus, there’s a Dallas neighborhood for you. Contrary to popular belief, there’s more to Dallas than what you’ve seen on TV (don’t expect to encounter Southfork Ranch–that’s a subject for another time). So grab your cowboy boots and check out these neighborhoods that are oh so uniquely Dallas.
Known by the locals as “Uptown’s Downtown,” the West Village is the place to go if you want to spend the day casually browsing shops. There are literally dozens of stores within a one-block radius, many of which are local boutiques, although you will also find popular, nation-wide brands (if you’ve been pining for some Lucky Brand Jeans, this is the place to get them). Best of all? Coffee shops and restaurants abound, so you won’t have to go far to re-energize during your shopping spree. Make a day of it by catching a movie at the Magnolia Theatre after a long day of shopping.
Bishop Arts District
Fashionistas who can’t pass up the opportunity to scour a boutique will love the Bishop Arts District. As the original Dallas neighborhood, this eclectic area is brimming with independent boutiques and art galleries. Head to IndieGenius to pick up vintage furniture or items from local designers, or stick around at Make + Made to learn how to construct your own clothes (maybe it will help you cut back on your shopping addiction). If you want to fill your apartment in addition to your wardrobe, check out Artisan’s Collective or Society for eclectic finds.
If you thought Downtown Dallas would be the same as any other downtown across the country, you would be wrong. It’s not just the Dallas’s iconic skyline that makes downtown worth a visit. Lovers of luxury fashion will also appreciate that Dallas has also been the location of Neiman Marcus’s flagship store for more than 100 years. This is where true fashionistas lurk. Browsing through the store’s many racks, you’re likely to find such varied and infamous names as Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana and Oscar de la Renta. Just be sure that when you enter you come armed with a credit card.
