Just a short drive south of Denver, Colorado Springs is a stunning oasis among rolling hills and craggy peaks. Long revered as a destination for nature lovers, the city also hosts several great spots for foodies. The Colorado Springs neighborhoods of Old Colorado City, Powers and Downtown all offer some unique dining options that are sure to entice the palates of food lovers.

Old Colorado City

This historic district of Colorado Springs is known for its collection of eclectic shops and restaurants that line the main thoroughfare. The neighborhood was a city in its own right, even housing the county seat of El Paso County for a brief time, until 1917 when it was absorbed into the city of Colorado Springs. It now stands as an interesting window into the past with several great dining options.

The Mason Jar has been serving locals traditional American cuisine in a homey, rustic atmosphere since 1982. Paravicini’s Italian Bistro was named Best New Restaurant in 2004 and has been serving up classic Old Country dishes, such as Chicken Saltimbocca and Veal Picatta​, ever since. The amazing Spanish tapas at Tapateria won the restaurant a Best of the Springs award in 2013 while the French bistro La Baguette serves up some of the best French Onion Soup in the city.

Powers

This Colorado Springs neighborhood, Powers, which runs along North Powers Boulevard, has all the standard food chains along with some unexpected delights. Arharn Thai has top-notch Thai classics, such as Pad Phet and Goong Gra-Thaim​, served with a casual twist. The smoked meat at B’z BBQ can’t be beat. The brisket and burnt ends make it one of the hottest lunch spots in town.

Meanwhile, the hard to find, hole-in-the-wall spot Sandy’s Restaurant is pumping out the most delicious homemade cinnamon rolls in the state. Rocky Mountain Brewery is the place to retire to at the end of the day for some fresh-brewed local beer.

Downtown

The center of all Colorado Springs neighborhoods, Downtown offers the highest concentration of delectable dishes anywhere in the city. Take a walk down the restaurant row of North Tejon Street and pop into any of the several fine-dining establishments you are likely to pass.

MacKenzie’s Chop House is the perfect place for a nice romantic dinner. The steak and seafood are paired with an impressive wine list to cater to any taste. If you haven’t gotten your fill at MacKenzie’s, head over to Famous Steak House. This Colorado Springs establishment is recreating the classic Chicago steakhouse in the middle of Colorado with their thick slabs of prime rib accompanied by the finest wines and live piano music every Tuesday through Saturday.

China Town Restaurant is a local favorite for its unique interior decor and menu of delicious Chinese dishes. Panino’s Restaurant is another local haunt, serving up Italian-American fusion at its two separate Colorado Springs locations.
