Overview of Alta Loma

Traditional Native American culture shaped the area that would become Alta Loma. This community, rich in Native American and American settler history, is a draw for all sorts of people moving to the area. Its regional beauty, charm and friendly atmosphere make Alta Loma an ideal place to call home.

Alta Loma apartments for rent can be limited, as the area is popular with many families and couples moving to California.

Living in Alta Loma, CA

Alta Loma's land has been claimed by many groups of people through its lengthy history. The first settlers in this area of California were Native Americans. The Cucamonga people created a community near Alta Loma by 1200. The area was taken over by Spanish explorers in the 1700s, but claimed by Mexico once the country gained independence from Spain. In the mid-1800s, America annexed California, and the area soon became part of the United States.

Alta Loma was founded when a piece of land was cut away from the Rancho Cucamonga estate. Alta gained its name in 1913 when the Pacific Electric Railway came through the town. The community continued to develop and grow, but experienced a real boom in the 1970s when families from Orange County and Los Angeles flocked to the area searching for more affordable homes. In 1975, a new city was proposed by the Tri-Community Incorporation Committee. This new city would combine Alta Loma with neighboring towns Etiwanda and Cucamonga to create Rancho Cucamonga. Citizens voted in favor of the incorporation in 1977, and the three communities have seamlessly integrated into one while managing to retain their unique separate identities.

Rancho Cucamonga boasts a thriving population of 167,721 residents, according to July 2011 data from the U.S. Census Bureau. The blossoming community has grown and modernized since its incorporation and features modern amenities expected in a mid-sized city. Renters seeking Alta Loma apartments will not be disappointed with what the area has to offer.

Alta Loma Work and Study

Chaffey College, a two-year community college, has a long history with Alta Loma and Rancho Cucamonga. The institution was first founded in 1883 as an agricultural school, but has undergone many changes since that time. It is currently noted in the area for its occupational program offerings and serves as an educational leader in the community.

The Alta Loma area of Rancho Cucamonga is a place to find work as well as learn. Professionals in the education industry should note that many of the area's top employers are educational institutions. Etiwanda School District, Chaffey Community College, Alta Loma School District and Central School District all employ many residents in the community. Large companies such as Amphastar Pharmaceuticals, the City of Rancho Cucamonga, Macy's and Mercury Insurance Company are some of the major employers in the area.
