Overview of Apple Valley

Head northeast outside of Los Angeles on Interstate 15 through Angeles National Forest and you will run into the community of Apple Valley, Calif. With an average of 350 days of sunshine per year, a prospering economic development program, schools that continually win awards for national excellence and a beautiful, scenic landscape, Apple Valley is one of the Golden State's most sought-after communities. It is also one of the fastest-growing towns in California. According to information from City-Data, the city has seen a growth in population of more than 27 percent from 2000 to 2010, showing that Apple Valley apartments for rent are great for living, playing and working.

Living in Apple Valley, CA

Although the city of Apple Valley was not incorporated until 1988, the town has a long and storied history. Spanish missions and Paiute Native Americans had been living in the area since the 1700s, but like many other communities in southern California, western expansion didn't bring pioneers into the area until the late 1800s. The valley here was plentiful with apple orchards at the time, hence the city's namesake. However, many of the orchards died out after the major droughts during the Great Depression. Today, the city has developed into one of the major hubs for healthcare and the oil and gas industry in California, pointing to its major economic growth in recent years. According to information from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a population of 70,000 residents, and that number is expected to grow as more people find out about everything this charming town has to offer.

Apple Valley Attractions and Special Events

Apple Valley is a town of families, so it makes sense that there are plenty of community events for both adults and children here. One of the city's most popular is the annual Apple Valley Fall Festival. Since the city is named after the orchards that were once prevalent here, the festival includes a commemorative apple pie baking contest and an apple-themed parade. The festival is also complete with a chili cook off, live entertainment and car show.
