Belmont, CA

Overview of Belmont

Conveniently located between San Francisco and San Jose, Belmont is known for being in the center of cultural and technological advancement in Northern California with the quiet, residential atmosphere of small town America. According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, the city's estimated 2011 population of more than 26,000 allows local residents to raise their families in fantastic Belmont apartments for rent in a welcoming community near everything two neighboring metropolises have to offer.

Living in Belmont, CA

The areas around Belmont were originally inhabited by Ohlone Native Americans that lived near the coastal regions. However, California was largely uninhabited until Spanish explorers arrived in Belmont in the late 1700s. The canyon portion of Belmont was even christened by Spanish missionaries and the area was colonized by these conquistadores well into the 19th century.

After the Gold Rush, California was granted statehood and many travelers headed westward in hopes of striking it rich. In the mid-1800s, Charles Aubrey Angelo built a roadhouse to accommodate weary travelers in what would eventually become Belmont. After the railroad stretched into the lands of California, Belmont became increasingly popular once many San Francisco and San Jose residents saw its potential for commercial and residential success.

Despite setbacks during the 1906 Earthquake that rattled Northern California, two World Wars and The Great Depression, Belmont remains one of the brightest communities in the Golden State.

Belmont Work and Study

According to the city's 2011 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, the town's principal employers include Oracle America, Inc., Cengage Learning, Inc., and Nikon Precision, Inc. Since many of the areas in the Northern California and the Pacific Northwest  have embraced the success of the Internet Age, it is no surprise that software manufacturing and development are the leading industries in Belmont. However, there are also growing fields in digital publishing and computer hardware production as well.

The largest and most popular institution in the area is Notre Dame de Namur University, one of the oldest universities in the state of California. With a campus representing students from 28 states and 23 countries, NDNU exemplifies the diversity and broad perspectives of this growing community. Many of the academic programs are community based, so students here have the opportunity to use real world experience to learn about their future careers. Students looking for Belmont rentals near campus should begin their search as early as possible to secure the right apartment and/or potential roommates.

Rentals in Belmont, CA and Cost of Living

Since the Bay Area is one of the most coveted regions for real estate in the world, the cost of living in Belmont is more than the national average. According to information from city-data.com, the 2009 median gross rent in the area was around $1,350 per month. However, residents in the area typically earn twice the amount of median household income per year than the average Californian, so new Belmont residents should expect to have a wide range of choices when it comes to rentals and lifestyle.

Belmont Attractions and Special Events

One of the most scenic ways that many San Franciscans escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and one of the attractions that Belmont residents take a lot of pride in, is Twin Peaks Park. Complete with 55 acres of hiking trails over the two famous peaks that show spectacular views of the Diablo Valley and Bay Area, this is the perfect place to find the adventurer in you. This park is also home to the mission blue butterfly, a federally listed endangered species that still survives in this picturesque area.
