Over time, Buena Park developed into a dairy center, and built its reputation from its presence with the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific depots. In 1889, the Lily Creamery opened - the first industry in the city.

While the city has grown exponentially since this time, it continues to claim fame for a number of reasons. Residents often enjoy Knott's Berry Farm, the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament and Entertainment Zone (E-Zone), which is located around Beach Boulevard south of the 91 Freeway.

Buena Park residents can take advantage of the vast educational opportunities in the area. The Buena Park Elementary School District has earned notoriety from the California Department of Education and California School Boards Association for a variety of achievements with its educational institutions. GreatSchools ranks the Charles G. Emery Elementary School and San Marino Elementary School among the best in the area, as each of the respective institutions earned an 8 out of 10 in terms of public schools’ test results.  

The top employers in Buena Park come from several areas, as Knott's Berry Farm, Nutrilite, Georgia Pacific, Leach International and the city itself hired the most employees as of March 1, 2007. The 2010 U.S. Census noted that there were 6,408 business firms in the city in 2007, and they grossed over $1.6 billion in retail sales.

According to City-Data.com, Buena Park's cost of living was about 25 points higher than the national average. Additionally, the median gross rent in 2009 was $1,362.

However, it might be worthwhile to consider the extra benefits of living in Buena Park. The city is six miles northwest of Anaheim and 12 miles northwest of Santa Ana, so it provides easy access to these areas and others in Orange County which may be even more costly to live in.

E-Zone is considered by many to be one of the top attractions in Southern California. It is strategically located, and delivers fast access to Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Newport Beach and downtown Los Angeles. This area is a huge draw for the city's tourism industry, attracting about 6.4 million visitors every year.

Enjoy Knott's Berry Farm, a legendary amusement park that features Medieval Times, Soak City Water Park and Pirates Dinner Theatre. Residents can also check out Disneyland Resort, located in nearby Anaheim for a fun time.
