Overview of Chino Hills

Tucked into the hills of the southwestern San Bernardino Valley, the affluent community of Chino Hills is a quiet antidote to much of the Inland Empire sprawl. Consistently ranked among the country’s best places live, the town takes pride in its safe streets and wealth of recreational options.

Many residents are drawn to the apartments for rent in Chino Hills because of the town’s relaxing environment within easy driving distance of busy Los Angeles. With huge amounts of open space and beautiful views of the nearby San Gabriel Mountains, it’s easy to forget that Chino Hills still offers all the conveniences of one of the country’s most exciting regions.

Living in Chino Hills, CA

A rural home to ranchers for many years, as well as the site of Boys Republic, a highly regarded school for troubled youth, the Chino Hills area began to see some development as a tourist retreat for Los Angeles residents in the 1920s. Visitors headed to the summer resort of Sleepy Hollow, stopped to play golf at the popular Los Serranos Golf and Country Club or escaped into the natural refuge of Chino Hills State Park.

The City of Chino Hills was incorporated in 1991, and it has since grown from 42,000 to around 75,000 residents. The city has drawn national attention for its high quality of life, and people looking for Chino Hills apartments can enjoy great outdoor recreation, shopping and access to nearby cities.

Chino Hills Work and Study

Chino Hills has no colleges or universities of its own, but students at Chaffey College’s Chino campus or Cal Poly Pomona in neighboring Pomona will find the town offers easy access to either institution.

As the home to the venerable Boys Republic and a highly recognized school district, Chino Hills offers a number of education jobs. Many residents also work at local retailers in the Shoppes at Chino Hills and Commons at Chino Hills developments, but most people choose to commute to Los Angeles or elsewhere in the San Bernardino Valley.

Rentals in Chino Hills, CA, and Cost of Living

As one of the most affluent communities in an already expensive region, Chino Hills is hardly a budget option. Although relatively few residents choose to do so, renting can provide a more affordable option for partaking in the community’s high quality of life.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau showed the median gross rent from 2008 to 2010 was $1,759. Additional research found one bedroom apartments renting for between $1,150 and $1,800 per month.

Chino Hills Attractions and Special Events

The rural, natural beauty of the surrounding hills offers a reprieve from the area’s urban norm and makes Chino Hills a great location for recreational activity. The city has enhanced its recreational opportunities since those early golf retreat days. At the center of the options for sports enthusiasts is the Big League Dreams Chino Hills Sports Park, a 33-acre athletic facility that features a replica professional-style baseball stadium and draws a wide range of baseball and softball events. Other area facilities provide a place for equestrian outings, sporting events and other community gatherings. In total, Chino Hills boasts 3,000 acres of public open space spread out over 40 parks.

Residents can also hit the links at Vellano Country Club, Los Serranos Country Club or Western Hills Country Club. Shoppers will enjoy the wealth of options at The Shoppes at Chino Hills. With the world-class shopping, dining, nightlife and entertainment of Los Angeles close by as well, people in Chino Hills never lack for things to do.
