Danville was originally part of the San Jose Mission, but later gained notoriety on its own after many Americans were drawn to the area because of the California Gold Rush. After Daniel and Andrew Inman bought 400 acres here in the 1850s, they decided to name the town after Danville, Ky., out of respect for Andrew's mother-in-law who was from there. For many years, the town was largely a rural area that grew fruits, walnuts and almonds, and raised cattle and sheep.
Despite the Spanish flu epidemic, two World Wars and the Great Depression, Danville flourished into a special and beautiful community. Many immigrants settled in the area, creating a diverse community that continually worked to improve the town. After more than 130 years, the town is still growing and developing into a true gem in the San Ramon Valley.
