Overview of Indio

Indio, nestled in the Coachella Valley and known as the "City of Festivals," is an oasis in the desert that features the nationally-acclaimed Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival each Spring. About 20 miles east of Palm Springs and 127 miles east of LA, Indio's stunning atmosphere, thriving arts and muisc scene, and relatively affordable cost of living makes it a prime destination for you and your family to rent an apartment.

Living in Indio

The town of Indio was born out of necessity. In 1875, the Southern Pacific Railroad was being built to the east from Los Angeles to Yuma, AZ, and halfway between the two cities, regular engine maintenance needed to be done in the town that was to become Indio. With time, Indio transformed from just a railroad town to a thriving city, and today, the city is home to over 76,000 people. This number grows throughout the year, however, as the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival draws thousands of people to the area each spring.

But don't be mistaken: Indio has far more to offer than the yearly Coachella Music Festival. For those who rent apartments in this area and like to golf, the possibilities are virtually endless. Some of the local neighborhood golf courses include Eagle Falls Golf Course, Shadow Hills Golf Course and the Heritage Palms Golf Club, among others.

If you have kids, you will also find that Indio is a family-friendly city. The Riverside Public Library System has a branch here. Kids will also really like Kids Party Central, a 10,000-square-foot indoor play area filled with inflatables and other fun activities. There are also a number of local parks here, including Fiesta Tamale Park and North Jackson Park that you want to be sure to take your kids to.

Transportation in Indio is simple. Interstate 10 runs through the city, making it easy to commute by car or SunLine Transit, the public transportation system, which is easily accessible in any neighborhood.

Apartments in Indio-Study

If you rent here, you might decide that you want to further your education at one of the local colleges or universities. Your main choice in the city is the College of the Desert, but other nearby options include Brandman University and California State University, San Bernardino. Both are just a short drive away in Palm Desert.

Apartments in Indio-Work

There is a thriving economy here, and some of the most popular sectors for finding employment include construction, accommodation and health care. The top employers here are the County of Riverside, Desert Sands Unified School District and John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital.
