Living in Laguna Hills, CA

Laguna Hills was built on a land grant during the Rancho era. After Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, government officials in Southern California were given land for cattle grazing. The area had the perfect climate and rich soil to grow barley wheat, grapes, walnuts, oranges and lemons, which helped fuel the local economy for decades. Lewis Moulton bought one of these tracts of land, Rancho Niguel, from Don Juan Avila in 1874. Rancho Niguel was used to raise sheep and cattle, and over time became the subdivided land known today as Laguna Hills. The city was officially incorporated in 1991. Today, Laguna Hills is one of the premier communities in southern Orange County. Young families and senior citizens alike live in Laguna Hills apartments to take advantage of the beautiful weather, exceptional public services and scenic attractions of California.

Laguna Hills Attractions and Special Events

Laguna Hills has many points of interest, including the Juan Avila Adobe Monument, Fossil Reef Park, and Costeau Park. Fossil Reef Park is more than 17 million years old and extends for six miles along the Orange County coast. Visitors can explore the unique reef and get a great understanding of the inner workings of the Pacific Ocean. The city also hosts the annual Sawdust Summer Festival, which features the works of more than 200 Laguna Beach artists. The Sawdust Art Festival works throughout the year to promote public art and education in southern California.
