Brentwood apartments and rentals place you in one of L.A.’s most comfortable enclaves. Here, you can feel the Pacific Ocean breeze and shelter in the soft light of the canyons. Residents walk their dogs down tree-lined streets. They jog in the parkland. North of Sunset Boulevard, the terrain is ridges and canyons. On its southern side, it’s flatter. The neighborhood fits between Santa Monica, the San Diego Freeway, Mulholland Drive, and Topanga State Park.

Brentwood started the modern era as part of the Rancho San Vicente y Santa Monica. The Sepulveda family sold their land here after the Mexican-American War. In the 1880s, development began. Then, it was soybeans and avocados. Now it’s one of Los Angeles’ wealthier areas.

Shopping and dining in Brentwood is found along commercial strips on Wilshire, San Vicente, and Sunset boulevards. Stroll past the groomed coral trees and check out the designer goods. Brentwood Village is one popular shopping district. Brentwood Country Mart, an early farmer’s market complex, is another. The neighborhood isn’t big on nightlife, but there are a few bars around, particularly near Wilshire Boulevard.

Brentwood is an easy place to enjoy the outdoors. Barrington Recreation Center has an indoor gym, two baseball diamonds, basketball courts, a playground, picnic areas, and more. There’s also a dedicated dog park here. Topanga State Park is just to the west and so are the beaches of Pacific Palisades. Up in the hills above the 405, you can visit the world-renowned Getty Museum and its collection of Western art.

Rentals here are usually single-family homes. Unsurprisingly, that means there are a lot of families around. You can also find some duplexes and a few large, modern apartment complexes. Property generally gets more expensive as you head north into the hills. Expect a two-bedroom in Brentwood to rent for an average of $2,690 a month. For transportation, most in Brentwood will be in their own car. The San Diego Freeway is on the neighborhood’s border and you’re not too far from the Santa Monica Freeway, either. The City of Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus service runs on Brentwood streets, as do Los Angeles MTA buses.

Brentwood is in California’s 30th Congressional District. The Barrington Post Office is just beside the recreation center. The Donald Bruce Kaufman - Brentwood Branch of the Los Angeles Public Library is on San Vicente. The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Center is on Wilshire just west of the 405.
