Civic Center, Los Angeles, CA
Living in Civic Center
Get yourself a Civic Center rental, and you’ll be living in the administrative center of Los Angeles. This northern slice of Downtown L.A. is mostly filled with government buildings—but not completely. Here and there you’ll find lofts you can live in, plus one of the West Coast’s premiere arts complexes. During the day, Civic Center gets jam packed with those working for the city, state, and federal government. At night, things quiet down, unless you’re at the Opera. Civic Center is located between Bunker Hill, Chinatown, and Little Tokyo.
Civic Center Lifestyle and Entertainment
Depending on where you draw your borders, the entire Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County is in Civic Center. That means the L.A. Opera, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Mark Taper Forum are all on your doorstep. There are a few restaurants for theatergoers and residents, but most cater to the business lunch crowd. Try Little Tokyo or New Downtown for more options.
City Hall Park currently serves as Civic Center’s green space, but a larger park is planned. When complete, the Los Angeles Mall will be a 16-acre park with a community gathering space in front of City Hall.
Civic Center Info and the Rental Market
Civic Center residences tend to be converted lofts. A one-bedroom in Civic Center rents for an average of $1,900 a month.
Many MTA buses run through this neighborhood on their way in and out of nearby Union Station. The Red Line and Purple Line subways stop at Civic Center station. The 101 and 110 freeways define the northwest corner of the neighborhood and they’re your best bet for driving any distance.
Downtown Los Angeles Resources
