Los Feliz, Los Angeles, CA
Living in Los Feliz
The hilly Hollywood neighborhood of Los Feliz contains some of Los Angeles’ most sought after rentals. Some say Los Feliz apartments and homes offer it all. Here, you can find happening nightlife, interesting eats, friendly neighbors (some of them famous), and expansive parkland. The only thing you’ll have trouble locating is a parking spot. No matter; this neighborhood is pleasantly walkable and served by the subway. From homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright to dive bars, it all comfortably fits in Los Feliz. You’ll find the neighborhood snug between East Hollywood, Hollywood, Silver Lake, and the Santa Monica Mountains.
Los Feliz is named after Spanish-Mexican Corporal Jose Vicente Feliz. He received a huge piece of land here in one of California’s first land grants. That was in the early 1800s. A later owner of the land, Griffith J. Griffiths donated over half the acreage to the city for Griffith Park. Walt Disney drew the first image of Mickey Mouse in a Los Feliz garage. These days, the hip happenings here keep Los Feliz rentals in high demand. That doesn’t look likely to change any time soon.
Los Feliz Lifestyle and Entertainment
The southern half of Griffith Park, including Griffith Observatory, the Greek Theater, and the Los Angeles Zoo all fit within Los Feliz. The park is over 4,000 acres of golf courses, children’s play areas, sports fields, and trails. It’s one of the United States’ largest urban parks.
Hillhurst and Vermont avenues are Los Feliz’s main drags. There, you’ll find classic dive bars, upscale eateries, and everything in between. Check out the Dresden Room for the unique musical stylings of Marty and Elayne. There are boutiques, mainstream chains, bookshops, vintage stores, movie theaters, and more to explore here. Grab a coffee and enjoy watching the world of Los Feliz wander past you.
Los Feliz Info and the Rental Market
Los Feliz, for the most part, is an affluent, residential neighborhood. It’s more expensive than other parts of the city, but not as exclusive as places like Bel Air. You’ll find storybook houses and apartments in Los Feliz. Two-bedrooms here rent for around $2,100 a month.
Commuters can catch the L.A. Metro Red Line subway at the Vermont / Sunset or Hollywood / Western stations. You’ll have good access to buses in Los Feliz, but finding parking can frequently be miserable. The neighborhood is located between the Hollywood and the Golden State freeways.
