Commuting From Los Gatos
Car is by far the most common and necessary mode of transportation in and around Los Gatos. Though slightly farther away from the more congested parts of Silicon Valley and the Bay Area, Los Gatos lies between San Jose and Santa Cruz on State Route 17. Both of these cities, as well as other southern Silicon Valley cities, are quite convenient for the commuter, but the road can get heavy with traffic during rush hour.
The Valley Transit Authority runs a bus system through Los Gatos, which connects to most of Santa Clara county and San Jose. From Santa Clara, the Caltrain rail system connects San Jose to San Francisco. The Valley Transit Authority also runs a light rail through neighboring cities of Campbell, Winchester, and Hamilton.
Los Gatos Schools & Education
Los Gatos is served by several school districts, and there are over a dozen schools in and around the neighborhood. Los Gatos High School is located in downtown Los Gatos, and is one of the most historic buildings in the area, dating back to the 1920s. There are several more private schools, from preschools to high schools.
