Nearby, notable higher education institutes include Alliant International University Grossmont College, California State University, San Marcos; Palomar College, Cuyamaca College, University of Phoenix-San Diego Campus and San Diego State University. All of these institutions listed are less than 22 miles away from the Ramona community. Alliant International University is the closest, located roughly 17 miles away in San Diego and enrolling nearly 2,500 students. San Diego State University can be found roughly 20 miles outside of Ramona and enrolls nearly 26,000 students annually.

According to data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau, Ramona rentals have a vacancy rate of 1.8 percent, and median gross rent was valued at $1,110 as of 2010. The largest percentage of renters falls in the gross rent range of $1,000 to $1,499, with nearly 65 percent of all renters falling in the wider range of $750 to $1,499.
