Redlands, CA
Overview of Redlands
Boasting a small-town vibe unheard of in Southern California, Redlands is one of San Bernardino County's best-kept secrets. According to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, Redlands' 2010 population came in at 68,747 people. Nearly 70 percent of households in Redlands consisted of families, and 30 percent of households included children younger than 18. Families and individuals in search of Redlands apartments for rent should be able to find a fantastic SoCal home.
Though Redlands got its start as a Native American settlement, its big break came in 1882 when E.J. White planted the first orange grove in Redlands proper. For the next 75 years, Redlands remained the largest navel orange-producing region in the world. Tourism ensued from the widespread popularity of the Redlands orange, leading to expansion and new communities. Today, one lone packing house remains to gather oranges from 2,500 acres of orchard space.
Residents love Redlands. The faint smell of orange blossoms, charming historic architecture and a small-town vibe give Redlands its quaint and friendly reputation.

Redlands was even named a "Tree City" by the National Arbor Day Association.

The city of Redlands, along with Redlands schools and universities, also provide employment opportunities for locals.
Redlands is also home to both University of Redlands and Community Christian College. University of California - Irvine, and University of California - Riverside, are also both a commutable distance from Redlands.
Rentals in Redlands and Cost of Living
Rental costs for Redlands apartments are on par with rental costs throughout the region and are less slightly less than the California median gross rent. The 2010 census showed Redlands' median gross rent to be $1,062. The census also showed that almost 40 percent of Redlands residents lived in rentals, while 60 percent of residents owned their own homes.
In addition to housing costs, new residents should keep in mind that Southern California is famous for its automobile use and traffic. Expect to factor in gasoline costs when planning a monthly budget. For residents looking to save money and reduce their carbon footprint, software company ESRI recommends carpooling.
