Overview of San Diego

While there are a number of neighborhoods where you can find 3 bedroom apartments for rent in San Diego, it's hard to beat La Jolla. Known colloquially as the "jewel" of San Diego and nestled in the very northwest corner of the city - just above the Mission Bay neighborhood - La Jolla offers residents the ability to get away from the noise and bustle of downtown and take in the beautiful views, pristine beaches and outdoor recreation for which the area is best known.

Stunning vistas

San Diego is a beautiful city, but the views in and around La Jolla are in a category of their own. The peninsula is surrounded on all sides by the wide, open expanse of the Pacific. Along the shore run steep, almost vertical cliffs, while further inland you can see the gentler slopes of Mount Soledad. A general feeling of quiet in the neighborhood reflects these vistas and their contemplative character. Also known as La Jolla Village, the district's quaint residences lend it the feeling of a small community within the city.

World-famous beaches

La Jolla's beaches are some of the most commonly visited in California - and why not? In addition to the incredible views, the area boasts a near-perfect microclimate: Rarely does it get hotter than 90 degrees Fahrenheit, or cooler than 50. The sands, the warm water and the pervasive ambience lend La Jolla a Mediterranean feel.

Golf, recreation at the parks

But don't worry, there's more to do than swim and look around. In the northern tip of La Jolla rests the Torrey Pines Golf Course, a world-renowned 18-hole course - set against one of the most breathtaking backdrops for golf that you'll find anywhere. For those unschooled in the art of golf, Torrey Pines also features miles of hiking trails. And Scripps Park lies on the tip of the peninsula, providing a highly scenic location for a picnic with family or friends.

Culture, shopping and food

Nature isn't the only type of beauty that La Jolla has to offer, either. Art lovers will feel right at home, as the neighborhood is home to the city's Museum of Contemporary Art, a quick walk south from Scripps Park. The historic La Jolla Playhouse also lies within the neighborhood's borders, as does the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, which hosts regular musical performances. The area also features many trendy boutiques where fashionistas will feel right at home, as well as a vibrant food and drink scene - La Jolla hosts many events for the yearly San Diego Beer Week.
