Central San Diego apartments keep residents pulsing in time to the cultural and financial heart of the city and county. It’s a medley of old and new neighborhoods, here. You’ll regularly walk past historic homes and ultra-modern apartments, depending only on which direction you choose to head. Central San Diego neighborhoods include Balboa Park, Barrio Logan, Core-Columbia, Cortez, East Village, Gaslamp District, Golden Hill, Grant Hill, Harborview, Horton Plaza, Little Italy, Logan Heights, Marina, Park West, Sherman Heights, South Park, and Stockton.

Downtown—first known as “New Town”—became the center of San Diego in the 1870s. Some of the Victorian homes here were built in that period. Other parts of Central San Diego have only recently become welcoming to residents. The East Village neighborhood is one example. Up until the 1990s, that part of the city was mostly warehouses and vacant lots. Now it’s busy with artists and trendy shops.

North Park is also an interesting area if you want to investigate independent stores or eat in eclectic restaurants.

Balboa Park was set aside for public recreation in 1835, making it one of the country’s oldest spaces dedicated to community enjoyment. That’s where you’ll find the San Diego Zoo and many of San Diego’s museums. Chicano Park’s murals enliven Barrio Logan. There are other pocket parks around as well. Area beaches aren’t too far off, either.
