Living in Rancho Bernardo

It’s amazing what a little foresight will get you. Rancho Bernardo rentals demonstrate that perfectly. This upscale neighborhood on the northern edge of San Diego was built to a master plan—and that comes through in the community’s classy calm. Set in a serene valley, nestled among canyons and rolling hills, Rancho Bernardo residents happily stand the heat. This part of San Diego is more than just stately homes, however. Rancho Bernardo’s business park hosts the corporate headquarters of Sony U.S., Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, and other major players.

The King of Spain gave away the acreage here in a land grant made way back in 1789. For most of the years since then, this was a place for grazing cattle. In the 1960s, developers carefully crafted the design for what would become Rancho Bernardo. The Witch Creek Fire of 2007 devastated whole sections of the community, but it’s been rebuilt even better than ever.

Rancho Bernardo Lifestyle and Entertainment

Rancho Bernardo has shopping centers, office parks, and a few golf courses. There are some nicer chain restaurants, local eateries, health clubs, shops, and a couple of grocery stores in town, too. If you’re looking for a drop to drink, swing by the Bernardo Winery. Established in 1889, it’s Southern California’s oldest.

Each neighborhood of Rancho Bernardo has its own park and club. Lake Hodges and Lake Poway are both close by, as is the famous San Diego Wild Animal Park. If you’re seeking a place to picnic or toss a ball around, you won’t have to look far.

Many of the residents here are raising families or enjoying retirement—some in senior living communities. There are also quite a few professionals who call Rancho Bernardo home.
