Southeast Denver, CO, apartments and rentals provide a variety of options for people seeking affordable living in the Mile-high City. As the name clearly indicates, the Southeast neighborhood is located southeast of Denver’s downtown. Within Southeast are a number of popular communities, such as Indian Creek, Hampden, Washington Virginia Vale and Goldsmith. Southeast is adjacent to the city of Aurora, which runs along the eastern edge of Denver.

Southeast Lifestyle and Entertainment

Southeast Denver encompasses a number of neighborhoods, each with their own eclectic vibe. The area includes a healthy mix of people of all ages, but in general, the neighborhood is most popular with people aged 25-40, many single. Families with children make up a relatively small percent of the residents in Southeast.

Development in the Southeast suburbs began in the 1930s and continued briskly into the 1970s. Although new housing, both single family and multi-residential, continues even today. These well-established residential areas offer quiet tree-lined streets and ample open spaces for outdoor recreation. Yet, the commercial boulevards boast a wide array of coffee houses, restaurants and shopping. Of course, as part of the beer capital of the west, there are plenty of pubs, bars and sports bars for hoisting a pint with friends.

Southeast is traversed by both the 40-mile Cherry Creek Trail and the High Line Canal. Residents enjoy these scenic trails for hiking, walking, jogging, biking, roller-blading and more. Cherry Creek State Park anchors the south end of the community. Known as Denver’s backyard playground, the park offers myriad outdoor options, including water sports on the lake, camping, sledding, snowshoeing and more.

The Southeast Rental Market

The rental market in Southeast Denver is quite extensive and offers a wide range of options for your next rental home. In general, the area is slightly more expensive than the average for Denver. Yet, you can readily find affordable garden-style apartments for as little as $550 monthly in various communities throughout the Southeast neighborhood. Or if luxury is more your style, Southeast has a plentiful selection of more upscale accommodations in high-end, high-rise buildings loaded with amenities. These start at about $1,600 for a one-bedroom. Getting to downtown Denver, the airport and Denver Tech Center are a relatively easy commute from most parts of the Southeast neighborhood. Depending on how far south you reside, you can expect a commute of 20-30 minutes. Most residential areas are served by bus routes and certain communities also have light rail connections.

Eleven council members are elected to represent city districts and two are elected at-large. Several city council districts cover the Southeast neighborhood, including Districts 4,5 and 6. The Southeast neighborhood is served by these branches of the Denver Public Library: Schlessman Family Branch Library, Eugene Field Branch Library, Virginia Village Branch Library, Hampden Branch Library, Ross-University Hills Branch Library, and Ross-Cherry Creek Branch Library.
