Loveland is home to 27 public parks, famed outdoor sports and recreation, and a diverse cultural landscape. Living in Loveland, CO
Although the first settlers arrived in the area in 1858, the city of Loveland began in 1881. Named after William Loveland, president of the Colorado Central Railroad, Loveland was founded along the railroad crossing near the Big Thompson River. The railroad helped Loveland establish itself as a shipping point for farmers, ranchers and lumber suppliers west of the Mississippi River. The town’s economy was initially driven by agriculture, with sugar beets and sour cherries as the primary crops until the Great Western Sugar Company built a factory in Loveland at the turn of the century, creating a new, large option for employment.
Loveland experienced a more diversified economy and population boom during the late 20th century when a number of large manufacturing and technology companies brought commerce to Colorado. Today, Loveland is at the center of the up-and-coming Northern Colorado, or NoCO, region with exceptional business and cultural opportunities.
Loveland Work and Study
Loveland is home to the Loveland Center for Colorado Christian University’s College of Adult and Graduate Studies, offering classes for adult students in Northern Colorado. Colorado Christian University offers a range of in-class and online degree programs ranging from biblical studies to health care administration to criminal justice. The university and student body embrace the declarations of the National Association of Evangelicals and affiliate with the overall evangelical faith rather than any specific denomination. Aims Community College also has a campus in Loveland, and is known as one of the most progressive two-year colleges in the state. This location offers credit classes, a nursing assistant program and continuing education classes.
For those seeking work, Loveland is home to many local business opportunities. Agilent Technologies is one of the largest companies in the area, offering job opportunities to Loveland residents in the fields of advancing electronics, communications, life sciences and chemical analysis. Other top employers include the McKee Medical Center, Aims Community College, Woodward Governor Company and the Group Publishing Company. Fifty-nine percent of Loveland residents work in management, sales and office occupations in these industries.
