Alain Avakian

Alain Avakian is the Chief Technology Officer for Rent.com, the nation's number one internet listing site in the rental housing industry. Alain is responsible for the development and deployment of technology-based solutions which enable Rent.com to achieve business objectives and deliver on the company's vision. Alain leads his team with an open mind, an open door and a decisive nature that inspires confidence. He is known for his ability to build and retain strong teams and for his deep expertise in technical architecture and implementation.

A veteran of Rent.com, Alain joined in 2001 during the startup stages when the company was named Viva. Hired as a principal architect, he was tasked with building a new search platform from the ground up. Bringing together a team of architects and engineers, Alain was instrumental in bringing a new technical solution to market that allowed Rent.com to expand its business nationally and become the number one listing site in the nation.

The life of a startup is nothing new to Alain. Prior to Rent.com, he worked at Stamps.com as an architect and senior software engineer during the early stages. While there he led the team responsible for the development and architecture of the company's web-based platform for delivering postage online. Additionally, Alain worked at CitySearch during the very early startup stages. Alain and his team were charged with delivering a customer centric search platform and mapping experience. Alain was successful in leading his team through the development of multiple versions of the CitySearch platform before they were bought by TicketMaster Online for $260 million.

Along with his wife and two children, Alain lives in Glendale, CA. He and his family enjoy traveling abroad and playing board games together. Always a team-builder, Alain is already teaching his kids programming.

Alain graduated with honors from California State University Northridge. He holds two Bachelor of Science degrees; one in Computer Science and the other in Mathematics.
