Bill McKnight

General Manager

Bill is General Manager of Rent.com, the nation's number one Internet listing site in the rental housing industry. He is responsible for setting the overall company vision as well as overseeing the day to day management. He ensures the various functional areas operate in alignment with the overall strategy to support the company growth objectives.

Bill joined Rent.com in 2004 and has served in several roles including Senior Product Manager, Group Product Manager and Director of Product Management and Technology before being appointed to General Manager in July 2011. Bill seeks to infuse a collaborative and transparent culture to enable the best possible decisions and to constantly improve the platform for connecting renters with property owners/managers through a better user experience across mobile and web so that Rent.com remains the leading national apartment rental website.

Prior to Rent.com, Bill was one of the initial members of LowerMyBills.com, joining the company during the early startup phase in 2000. Working with a small management team, he delivered business development strategy and a product roadmap that drove profitable revenue streams for the company. By 2005, the company had grown to more than 200 employees and was sold to Experian for $330 million.

Bill began his career in the environmental services industry. In the early 1990s, he created a partnership to pioneer a commercial recycling business in Aspen, CO, much ahead of the times. In 1994, he accepted a position at Waste Management, Inc. in the San Francisco Bay Area. While there, he was responsible for sales and account management to a regional portfolio of commercial clients. Bill received the President's Leadership Award for overall excellence in business development and customer service.

Born in London, England, and raised in New York City, he has called Los Angeles home since 1998. He lives with his wife and two daughters in West Los Angeles. Bill and his family share a sense of adventure and enjoy traveling as well as hiking, skiing, and all things outdoors.

Bill holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Denison University in Granville, OH, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
