Living in Bloomfield, CT
Bloomfield was once a mid-17th century settlement known as Messenger Farms. When the settlement was finally incorporated as a village in 1835, it was home to about 900 full-time residents. Since 1835, Bloomfield has continued to grow and expand. Originally an agricultural region, Bloomfield was once home to numerous tobacco farms and brandy distilleries. The Hartford-to-Westfield train line brought additional industry to the area. A third population boom occurred after World War II, when suburbanization became en vogue and many residents moved out of Hartford and into Bloomfield. Today, the village's population totals approximately 20,000 people.
