Overview of Enfield

Situated in the scenic Connecticut River Valley, Enfield is a modern suburban community boasting a rich history and beautiful natural surroundings. In addition to one-of-a-kind shopping and dining options, you can take advantage of recreational activities that include hiking, fishing and boating as well as a mix of winter sports. Everything this appealing community has to offer is available to you when you rent an apartment in Enfield.

Living in Enfield

Originally settled by the Pocomtuc people, the area was inhabited by European colonists beginning in 1679. It was incorporated four years later. The town was the site for Jonathan Edwards' famous "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" sermon that was instrumental in the mid-18th century's Great Awakening. A stone marker commemorates the location of the sermon. The town's setting on the Connecticut River also made it a center of water-powered manufacturing in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Located in north-central Connecticut along the border with Massachusetts, the city has a diverse population of around 44,600 residents. The community features several distinct neighborhoods, including a nationally registered Historic District as well as the lakeside Shaker Pines, the Thompsonville town center and Powder Hollow, which was once home to a colonial and Civil War-era gunpowder factory.

In addition to architectural styles that range from Victorian to modern designs on sidewalk-lined cul-de-sacs, these neighborhoods feature several parks and urban green spaces with playgrounds, ball fields and picnic facilities. Scantic River State Park is great for hiking, fishing, kayaking and other nature activities.

The quality of life is also enhanced by the town's close proximity to the professional concerts, theater, opera, ballet and sporting events available in the surrounding area. Most residents travel by car, and Interstate 91 connects drivers to popular amenities.

Apartments in Enfield-Study

In addition to hosting Asnuntuck Community College, the town sits astride the Knowledge Corridor, the second-highest concentration of institutions of higher learning in the country. Stretching between the nearby cities of Springfield and Hartford, it affords people who rent in Enfield access to renowned schools. Nearby academic institutions include Springfield College and Western New England University as well as American International, Amherst and Mount Holyoke Colleges.

Apartments in Enfield-Work

Enfield boasts a diverse and modern economy. It is the U.S. headquarters for Lego as well as Precision Camera and Video Repair, an electronics repair facility for several major warranty companies. The community's largest employers are the regional distribution and customer service centers for Lego and Hallmark Greetings. Other top employers for people who rent apartments in one of Enfield's various neighborhoods include 3M, MassMutual Financial Services Group, the Enfield Public School System and the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
