Overview of New Milford
Full of New England charm, a high quality of life, and a hard-working sensibility, the Connecticut town of New Milford is one of the state's finest communities. Conveniently tucked between the New York/Connecticut state line and Interstate 84 near Danbury, this charming town is perfect for commuters and families. With its excellent public and private schools, quaint downtown and plenty of outdoor and leisure amenities, it is no surprise that residents here are proud to call New Milford home. According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the town is home to more than 27,000 citizens, making it the perfect area for people who want all the charms of small-town life.
Living in New Milford, CT
Like many other New England towns, New Milford has a rich history. The first European settlements began here in 1707, when John Noble and his daughter made their way up the Housatonic River and made their home in Litchfield County. Many immigrants quickly followed and a community was born. One of the biggest distinctions that New Milford acquired was the town's reputation for hat making. In a time when nearly everyone wore one, this brought a great deal of economic success to the community during New Milford's early days. Today, this city has an eclectic mix of rural and suburban populations, with many of the residents older than 40, according to City-Data.
New Milford Attractions and Special Events
The Bank Street Theater is a vintage cinema that opened in 1920, and it still remains the heart of the town's downtown to this day. The theater design echoes back to the art deco facade that was popular at the time, which can still be seen today, even after extensive remodeling.
