The thriving community of Norwalk is the ideal place for residents to settle down with their families, build a business or retire. This historic Connecticut city has something to offer everyone, and it won't be hard for residents to find a place for themselves within this exciting community.

Living in Norwalk, CT
Fairfield County was discovered by European settlers in the early 1600s. In the 1630s, Puritans living in Massachusetts came to the area and several towns set up the government necessary to form an official colony.
Norwalk was the center of anti-English activities and demonstrations during the American Revolution. Because of the patriotic activities taking place there, British troops attempted to burn down the entire city during the Battle of Norwalk, one of the largest battles in Connecticut during the war.
This area of Connecticut also played a role in the Civil War. The state abolished slavery in 1848, and sided with the Union during the war. It supplied the Union army with nearly 60,000 troops, who fought to keep the country together.
Today, the historic waterfront community is a thriving city with nearly 86,500 residents. It is a large and important community in Connecticut, as well as a commuter city in the New York metropolitan area.
Norwalk Work and Study
Students seeking a two-year degree in Norwalk can attend classes at Norwalk Community College, which has served the city since 1961. With a variety of degree and certificate programs, students can find a course of study to suit their needs and interests. With a goal of academic excellence in the community, NCC stands out to those looking for an associate degree.
Norwalk is more than just a college town, however. Several large organizations employ many local residents. The city of Norwalk is the largest employer in the area, followed by Norwalk Health Services Corporation, Stew Leonard's, MBI, Diageo and Hewitt Associates.

Norwalk Attractions and Special Events

Because Norwalk is right on the water, it's easy to get outdoors and enjoy the warm days on the beach. Calf Pasture Beach and Shady Beach both offer residents the chance to enjoy the city's shore. There's a lot to do besides swim at these beaches - many like to also take advantage of the boat rentals, picnic areas, volleyball courts and nearby playground.
Veteran's Memorial Park and Marina is an area where lots of residents spend their leisure time. This 35-acre park offers recreational activities, such as boat rentals, a soccer field, volleyball courts and baseball diamonds. Those who'd prefer to relax can stroll along the walking paths or boardwalk overlooking Norwalk Harbor and stop for a snack at the concession stand.
Those looking to experience Norwalk's past can stop at Fodor Farm, a historic landmark in the city. The farm serves as a reminder of Norwalk's roots as a small agricultural town. Today Fodor Farm is being restored and is home to organic community gardens.
