Living in New Castle, DE

New Castle was founded in 1651 by Peter Stuyvesant under the original name of Fort Casimir. Because of the city’s accessible location, it fell under rule of the Netherlands, Sweden and Great Britain at different points in history. New Castle became the capital of Delaware after the counties were dissatisfied with the leadership of William Penn and granted a separate legislature. The city quickly became a thriving community because of its coastal location. New Castle was the eastern terminal of the New Castle and Frenchtown Railroad and served as a station where passengers would board boats to continue travel further south through Baltimore.

Today, New Castle is a charming colonial town that is still home to buildings dating back hundreds of years. The city is unique because it is a historic community where people live and work. All home renovations are strictly monitored to ensure that New Castle maintains the individuality of past and present owners.
