Overview of NoMA

One of the numerous neighborhoods around D.C., NoMa is named for its location which is North of Massachusetts Avenue. It is situated about a mile from the center of the city and a little over two miles from the White House. The improvement of this quickly developing 35 block neighborhood was inspired by the opening of the New York Avenue Metro station in 2004. NoMa is home to over 40,000 residents and over 3,000 apartments. In the summer, the residents enjoy free outdoor film festivals and outdoor concerts.

Less than a mile from the neighborhood is the Ethiopic Restaurant. In addition, the area features a tapas restaurant and a traditional Louisiana fish house among many others.

The Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue is a great place for the whole family and children enter free from July 1st to September 1st. There are several permanent exhibits like the interactive news room and the Berlin Wall gallery, plus fifteen theatres. In addition, there are several programs and lectures to enjoy. The Warner Theatre where the Nutcracker Ballet is performed every December is located in downtown D.C. and less than 3 miles away is the Ink Lounge for after theatre drinks.

There are several shops that cater to the animal lover, but few take it to the level of Metro Mutts in NoMa. Washington DC Commuting Options

Commuting to and from NoMa is relatively easy. There are thirteen modes of transportation to access the entire metropolitan area. There are two Metrorail stations, multiple Metrobus lines, and a bike share program, making bicycles available to everyone, two bus routes on the DC Circulator, commuter buses and more. In addition, many residents drive their own vehicles to navigate their way through the city.

NoMa Schools & Educational Options

There are several four and five star rated schools in the NoMa Washington, D.C. area. About two miles from NoMa is the St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church and School on V Street. The school serves pre k through 8th grade and has a strong record of high school placement in outstanding schools. In addition, there are several public elementary and high schools.
