Those looking for Alachua apartments for rent will love this quiet community in north central Florida.

Living in Alachua, FL

The city of Alachua was officially incorporated in 1905, and by 1912 the it already had two banks, three hotels, a department store, ice plant, electric light plant, two cotton gins and more. Like many other towns, Alachua felt the repercussions of the Great Depression, which caused banks to close their doors, but the watermelon, corn, cucumber, bean and squash farms in the area were able to produce large amounts of food for the region.

Some residents still make a living on the farm, but there are many other employment opportunities throughout the county as well. Some of the largest employers include UF, Shands Healthcare, Santa Fe College and Veterans Affairs. There is also an increasing amount of tech and biotech industries heading to the area.

Alachua Attractions and Special Events

There are several annual events where residents in Alachua gather to celebrate. Some of the most beloved events that take place around town are the Fourth of July celebration, Trick or Treat on Main, Harvest Festival and the Christmas Parade.

When these or other events aren't taking place, residents can often be found strolling along historic Main Street, where there are plenty of dining and shopping options.
