This city is roughly 22 miles west of Orlando and encompasses 14.44 square miles of land. Clermont is primarily known for its retail trade, but also features a variety of food and beverage establishments that contribute to the city's economy.

Residents in this city frequently enjoy a higher-than-average household income than they might in other areas of the state. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the median household income in Clermont was $55,856 between 2006 and 2010, while the median household income for Florida was $47,661 over the same period.

Often referred to as the "Gem of the Hills," Clermont features a hilly landscape that is conducive to a mix of recreational activities. Many people consider the Clermont apartments for rent so they can enjoy biking, camping, hiking, hunting and more.

Living in Clermont, FL

Clermont was founded in 1884, and the city's Historic Village at the corner of West Avenue and Osceola Street gives residents a glimpse into the area's past. The Townsend House and Ken House, which were built in 1895 and 1885, respectively, have been moved to the city's downtown and are open to the public.

When newcomers visit Clermont, they may find that the area offers a peaceful setting in the Sunshine State. The Citrus Tower is one of the first attractions constructed in Florida and gives people a spectacular view of Clermont from 500 feet above sea level.

The Lake County Schools district's five elementary schools, three middle schools, one high school and one charter school serve Clermont students. The city also hosts a number of private schools such as Citrus Heights Academy and the Orlando Christian School.

Lake-Sumter Community College is a popular choice for many residents in the area. This college provides students with more than 30 certificate, degree and diploma programs, and hosts roughly 7,500 students annually. The school also offers 2+2 partnerships with local universities that are designed to help students transition to four-year institutions.
