Daytona Beach, FL
Overview of Daytona Beach
Beach lovers should strongly consider looking for Daytona Beach apartments for rent. Located on the east coast of Central Florida, Daytona Beach is known as the World's Most Famous Beach, a title it earned thanks to its 23 miles of hard-packed white sand. Of course, Daytona Beach is an exciting place to live for other reasons, too. Many people flock to this coastal city for some of the largest motorsports events in the world, including the Daytona 500 NASCAR race, also known as the "Great American Race."
Aside from some of the most beautiful, family-friendly beaches in America, residents enjoy a warm climate, active arts community and quality school system.
Living in Daytona Beach, FL
Although the beach is certainly the largest attraction and the biggest draw for most residents, Downtown Daytona Beach also offers a wide range of business and cultural opportunities. Founded in 1870 by Mathias Day, the downtown area is the historical core of the city. Beach Street is the main promenade, lined with shops and restaurants, and also hosts museums, exhibits, water activities, festivals and Florida's oldest Saturday farmers market.
Once founded, Daytona Beach drew many wealthy northern entrepreneurs, which led to the city's development as a center of commerce and community in the area. Today, there are five recognized communities around Daytona Beach. Ormond Beach is a quaint residential area that dates back to the turn of the 20th century and has parks, traffic-free beaches and many restaurants. Meanwhile, Ponce Inlet/Wilbur-By-The-Sea has a classic "Old Florida" feel and offers some of the area's best waterfront activities, including fishing excursions, waterside dining and a marine science center. The Port Orange/South Daytona area is known for its scenic location on the Halifax River. This community is also proud of its historic treasures, botanical gardens and golf courses. Lastly, Holly Hill is known as "The City with a Heart" and offers residents a beautiful view of the river.
Daytona Beach Work and Study
Tourism is a major industry in Daytona Beach, and the Daytona International Speedway - built in 1959 as the World Center of Racing - is the lead employer. The area attracts nearly 8 million visitors each year. However, manufacturing jobs are also plentiful, with MASCO, a leader in the manufacturing industry, serving as another lead employer.
Jobs and opportunities in higher education are also available, since Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is located in Daytona Beach. The university, ranked by The Chronicle as one of the 2012 Great Colleges to Work For, offers a number of aviation and aerospace studies to its 4,597 students. Daytona State College, Florida State University's College of Medicine and Bethune-Cookman University also bring a large population of students to the area, and families send their younger children to one of the six schools in the city.

Daytona Beach Attractions and Special Events

Sports fans may be interested in watching the Daytona Cubs play at the historic Jackie Robinson Stadium - the place where the famed baseball player participated in the first integrated spring training game, before becoming the first African American to play in the Major Leagues.
