Living in Kissimmee, FL

Kissimmee was previously called Allendale when it began as a small trading post on the northern banks of Lake Tohopekaliga. When the community was incorporated in 1887, the city was renamed Kissimmee. Originally having its roots in agriculture and cattle ranching, the city consciously looked to diversify, and when Disney opened just outside the city in 1971, large groups of people moved into the area.

Today, Kissimmee is home to more than 61,000 residents, and while the city has undergone numerous transitions over the years, Kissimmee's Community Redevelopment Agency has reported putting significant effort into maintaining some of the city's heritage. The CRA has been working to promote a reinvestment in downtown Kissimmee with streetscape projects and community events, making the historic downtown neighborhood of Kissimmee one of the most sought after locales for Kissimmee apartments. Additional unique areas of Kissimmee that the CRA works to maintain include cattle ranches and lakes for bass fishing.
