Overview of Miami Lakes

Tree-lined streets, a low crime rate and beautiful homes make Miami Lakes one of the most desirable communities in Florida. Conveniently situated between the seaside metropolis of Miami and one of the largest wildlife areas in the state, residents who live in Miami Lakes apartments for rent can have all the benefits of a large city nearby, but can still have plenty of outdoor recreation and small-town atmosphere as well. According to City-Data, the word is out on Miami Lakes, as the city has seen a 29.5 percent increase from 2000 to 2010. With so much that this charming Sunshine State town has to offer, Miami Lakes is showing no signs of slowing down.

Living in Miami Lakes, FL

Miami Lakes was largely an agricultural community in southern Florida until the mid-20th century. Part of a land development more than 40 years ago after the city of Miami began to expand, the more than 3,000 acres that were sold and constructed here quickly grew into a sought-after community in Miami-Dade County. True to its given name, the 23 lakes that are nestled in this quaint town make the recreational opportunities here second to none. The city is still dotted with several dairy farms as well, echoing back to the city's agricultural past. Although the city has remained small for many years, Miami Lakes has grown into a bedroom community of more than 30,000 residents, according to a 2011 estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Miami Lakes Attractions and Special Events

It's no secret that the sport of golf and Florida go hand in hand - and Miami Lakes is no different. Many residents here enjoy hitting the fairways at Shula's Golf Club. With excellent views of the Miami skyline, tropical landscape and classic course details, this venue draws in both residents and visitors each year.

If the arts are more your style, Miami Lakes is also home to their own theatrical playhouse. This community theater known as the Main Street Players hosts productions like plays, musicals and comedy acts for its residents.
