Living in Orange Park, FL

What is now Orange Park was once controlled by Spain. When the U.S. military invaded this part of Florida in 1813, locals joined the revolt against the Spanish. In retaliation, the Spanish burned the area and the residents moved out of the vicinity.

The United States finally gained control of Florida, though. In 1877, the Florida Winter Home and Improvement Company bought several thousand acres of land in Florida and designated the area the new town of Orange Park. The company, based in Boston, marketed the new town to citizens of the North, encouraging them to make the move to sunny Florida.

Today, Orange Park is a small, quiet town with just 8,476 residents. The community may not be large, but it provides a unique, intimate feel for residents who want to enjoy small town living outside of Jacksonville.

Orange Park residents can enjoy themselves at Clarke House Park, which has earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places. The site is open to the public and features a playground for kids, trails, gardens and pavilions.

Every year, residents get together to celebrate the Orange Park Fall Festival. This free event features food and entertainment, and locals can socialize with friends and neighbors at the annual gathering. The festival also features craft booths and local vendors displaying their goods.
