Palm Beach, FL

Overview of Palm Beach

A barrier island located along the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, the town of Palm Beach, FL is one the Sunshine State's most beautiful places to live. Conveniently located between West Palm Beach and Lake Worth, residents who live in Palm Beach apartments for rent enjoy plenty of lush gardens, beach recreation, plenty of sunshine and exotic marine wildlife. Although the town welcomes 30,000 seasonal residents each year, Palm Beach is home to more than 8,300 residents year-round, according to 2010 data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Living in Palm Beach, FL

According to local legend, Palm Beach got its name from a ship named the Providencia that washed ashore on its way from Havana, Cuba, to Barcelona, Spain, with a large shipment of coconuts. Rumor has it that early settlers planted the coconuts, resulting in the numerous palm trees that line the streets here today. However, the town didn't become a major destination in Florida until Henry Flagler, the millionaire owner of the Florida East Coast Railway, began purchasing acres of land in the area, enticing many residents to move here. The city eventually incorporated in 1911, and soon began its journey as one the most beautiful island paradises in Florida. Today, the town is home to a large senior citizen population, as the median resident age in the area is older than 65, according to City-Data. Palm Beach is also a prosperous community, with a median household income that more than doubles Florida's state average.

Palm Beach Attractions and Special Events

There are loads of recreational fun in Palm Beach, including tennis facilities, a par 3 golf course, and town docks that offer a marina for boating and fishing activities near the southern terminus of the six-mile lake trail. There is also a plethora of seaside activities along South Ocean Boulevard.
