However, the town didn't become a major destination in Florida until Henry Flagler, the millionaire owner of the Florida East Coast Railway, began purchasing acres of land in the area, enticing many residents to move here. The city eventually incorporated in 1911, and soon began its journey as one the most beautiful island paradises in Florida. Today, the town is home to a large senior citizen population, as the median resident age in the area is older than 65, according to City-Data. Palm Beach is also a prosperous community, with a median household income that more than doubles Florida's state average.

There are loads of recreational fun in Palm Beach, including tennis facilities, a par 3 golf course, and town docks that offer a marina for boating and fishing activities near the southern terminus of the six-mile lake trail. There is also a plethora of seaside activities along South Ocean Boulevard.
