Punta Gorda, FL
Overview of Punta Gorda
Conveniently tucked between the Gulf Coast cities of Sarasota and Fort Myers, the small seaside town of Punta Gorda, FL is one of the most beautiful communities in the state. Equipped with plenty of oceanside activities, a thriving historic downtown and high quality of life, there are plenty of reasons to give Punta Gorda apartments for rent a second look. According to information from City-Datal, despite its miles of oceanfront property, the cost of living in Punta Gorda is more than five points below the national average. Because of all the affordable and fun amenities this Florida town has to offer, it is not surprising to know that the area has seen a 16 percent jump in population growth from 2000 to 2010.
Living in Punta Gorda, FL
Like many developing towns in the late 1800s, Punta Gorda was one of the first areas founded alongside the railroad. Because of the city's important port location for the shipment of fish and cattle, the quiet town began to grow and was eventually incorporated in 1900. Over the years, Punta Gorda fought through a fire that destroyed most of the city, the Great Depression and two World Wars, but still maintained its historic downtown district that makes the community proud. Today, Punta Gorda has become one of the state's most modern and sustainable small towns, with many bicycle and pedestrian thoroughfares, state-of-the-art facilities and a charming marina. According to the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, Punta Gorda is home to more than 16,600 residents.
Punta Gorda Attractions and Special Events
Although it is no secret that many of the cities along the Gulf attract tourists, Punta Gorda enjoys many hidden and unspoiled sugar sand beaches that residents are very proud of. Because the town is largely residential, people who live in Punta Gorda can enjoy all the attractions and leisure activities of South Florida without the large crowds. The historic district and Harborwalk are also fantastic places for people to see indigenous wildlife and enjoy fishing and boating.
