With its small-town atmosphere, excellent school system and plenty of park space, this is an ideal location for families who want to live a Floridian lifestyle but still want a warm and welcoming community in which to raise their children in. According to City-Data, Seminole is growing in popularity, as it has seen an astounding 58 percent jump in population from 2000 to 2010.
Living in Seminole, FL
The areas around Pinellas County were first settled by Spanish settlers as early as 1528, when conquistadors landed on the shores around Tampa Bay area in search of gold. Florida fell under British and Spanish colonial rule for many years. It wasn't until the early 1800s that homesteaders came to the area to make a new life in the South - many of them drawn to the warm weather and economic opportunity in the fishing industry. Once Tampa began to solidify itself as a major Floridian city, the area began to grow and was eventually incorporated and named Seminole in 1970 after the Native Americans who roamed Florida many years before the Spanish landed on their shores. Although this thriving community may have started out as a small village, it is now grown into a city in its own right, with more than 17,200 residents, according to 2010 data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Seminole Attractions and Special Events
One of the city's biggest events is the annual "Music in the Park" series in Seminole City Park that features bands from all over the Tampa Bay area. In the fall, the park hosts a haunted house for Halloween fun, and the city takes great pride in the Park's Winterfest activities during the popular holiday months.
